Abstract
改良された着火特性を示す。細孔径中央値は2〜10μm、25〜800℃における熱膨張係数(CTE)は5×10−7/℃未満である。

Claims (10)
- 自動車の触媒コンバータ・システムに使用するための高多孔性セラミック・ハニカム基体であって、
改良された着火特性を示し、かつ入力端と、出力端と、壁厚が2.0ミル(0.0508mm)を超える多数のセルとを有し、45〜75%の範囲内の全体気孔率と、2〜10μmの範囲内の細孔径中央値と、25〜800℃において15×10−7/℃未満の熱膨張係数とを有することを特徴とするハニカム基体。 - 前記壁厚が、2.5ミル(0.0635mm)〜7ミル(0.1778mm)の範囲内にあることを特徴とする請求項1記載のハニカム基体。
- 前記壁厚が、2.5ミル(0.0635mm)〜3ミル(0.0762mm)の範囲内にあることを特徴とする請求項2記載のハニカム基体。
- 前記気孔率が50〜65%の範囲内にあることを特徴とする請求項1記載のハニカム基体。
- 前記細孔径中央値が2〜4μmの範囲内にあることを特徴とする請求項1記載のハニカム基体。
- 前記25〜800℃における熱膨張係数が10×10−7/℃未満であることを特徴とする請求項1記載のハニカム基体。
- 多孔体の棒として測定した破壊係数(MOR)が200〜400psi(1379〜2758kPa)の範囲内にあることを特徴とする請求項1記載のハニカム基体。
- 触媒コンバータ・システムに使用するための高多孔性セラミック・ハニカム基体の製造方法であって、
a)
(イ)セラミック粉末材料と、
(ロ)可塑化バインダ系と、
(ハ)2〜18μmの平均粒子径を有する15〜85重量%の細孔形成材と、
を含む成分からなるバッチを作成し、
b)前記成分からなるバッチを混合して、可塑化された混合物を形成し、
c)該可塑化された混合物を、ダイに通して押出成形して未焼成ハニカム体を形成し、
d)該未焼成ハニカム体を、前記細孔形成材を除去するのに十分な温度および時間をもって加熱して、45〜75%の範囲内の全体気孔率と、2〜10μmの範囲内の細孔径中央値と、25〜800℃において15×10−7/℃未満の熱膨張係数とを有する構造体を形成することを特徴とする前記方法。 - 前記バッチが、3〜8μmの粒子径中央値を有する30〜70重量%の細孔形成材を含むことを特徴とする請求項8記載の方法。
- 前記セラミック粉末材料が、コージェライト、スピネル、クレイ、タルク、アルミナ、水酸化アルミニウム、シリカと、カルシウム、マグネシウム、硼素、チタン、ゲルマニウムの酸化物と、アルカリと、遷移金属からなる群から選択されたミネラルまたは精製された粉末を含むことを特徴とする請求項8記載の方法。
