Abstract
Description
優先権は、2002年7月29日に出願された仮特許出願第60/399,583号から主張され、それはまた、参照により本明細書に組み入れられる。
ビスマスを含むガラス組成物、そのガラス組成物で形成されるガラス繊維、及び、同組成物の適用を開示する。
二つの周知のガラス繊維を製造する方法が、回転方法(rotary method)及びフレームブローン方法(flame blown method)として知られている。別の、周知で広く使われている方法は、CAT方法であり、回転方法(rotary method)の改良である。これらの方法によりガラスを製造することは、ガラス組成物をそれらの融解温度を越えて、作業温度範囲まで加熱する必要がある。ガラス繊維を作るのに用いられる典型的なガラス組成物の融点は、約2700°F(約1482℃)であり、作業温度(ガラスの粘度が100から1000ポアズの温度範囲)は、約2600°F(約1427℃)である。存在する組成物は、比較的狭い作業範囲をもち、ガラス組成物を作業可能な範囲に維持するのが難しいため、好ましい直径と長さのガラス繊維を形成するのは難しい。更に、比較的高い融点は、組成物を溶かすのに大量のエネルギーを必要とし、大変費用がかかりうる。
ガラス組成物、及び、その開示されるガラス組成物のある態様から形成されたガラス繊維が開示される。開示される組成物及び繊維の特別な態様は、繊維化装置が有効である寿命を伸ばし、ガラス繊維を製造するのに関連したコストを減らすことのできる、広い作業温度域及び比較的低い融解温度を持つ。更に、開示される組成物及び繊維の特別な態様は、良酸及び/またはアルカリ耐性を持ち、溶出が起こったときに、溶出したイオンが、例えば電池の隔離板のような繊維が使用される特定の適用において、プラスの効果を持つ有益なイオンを含む。また、そのようなガラス繊維のある適用が開示される。
他の成分の中で、ビスマス及び/またはビスマス化合物を含むガラス組成物が開示される。開示されるガラス組成物は、溶融段階におけるガラス組成物であり、その組成物は、そのようなガラス組成物から形成された、得られたガラス繊維の組成物と同じである。開示されるガラス組成物は、ある成分が、いったん溶融すると形を変え、ガラス組成物の一部分になりうるようなガラス組成物を形成するために、例の「成分表」から逸脱するかもしれない。例になるガラス組成物の成分表は、開示されるガラス組成物の特別な態様を形成する例示の方法の議論と共に、下記に示される。
