La presente invenzione ha per oggetto un dispositivo di protezione per il garrese di un cavallo o simile animale da una coperta. The present invention relates to a protective device for the withers of a horse or similar animal from a blanket.

Nel campo dell’allevamento dei cavalli è pratica comune l’utilizzo di coperte per riparare l’animale dal freddo, dagli insetti e da altro, anche in considerazione che tali animali vengono normalmente tosati in ogni stagione. I più comuni tipi di coperte coprono il dorso ed i fianchi dell’animale e sono in genere chiusi, per esempio mediante cinghie o lacci sotto al ventre dell’animale e davanti alle gambe anteriori. In genere tali coperte lasciano libero il collo dell’animale, e, pertanto, un bordo della coperta passa in corrispondenza del garrese. Questa parte, per la sua struttura anatomica, è piuttosto delicata. Anche a causa dei movimenti dell’animale, è facile che il bordo della coperta provochi ed aggravi lesioni difficili da guarire. Poiché anche la sella interessa questa zona del corpo dell’animale, la presenza di tali lesioni può impedire di cavalcarlo fino a completa guarigione. Per tale motivo sono state proposte soluzioni, come rivestimenti, per esempio in pelle di agnello applicati a tale bordo; tuttavia, oltre ad aumentare il costo della coperta, tali soluzioni si sono rilevate ancora insoddisfacenti dal punto di vista della prevenzione delle lesioni. Con riferimento alle figur e 1 e 2, la protezione secondo un possibile aspetto dell’invenzione presenta un corpo centrale allungato 1 , che come detto, può essere realizzato di pezzo con le ali 2. Tra le ali 2 viene definito uno spazio longitudinale 3 tale da poter accogliere il dorso dell’animale, allargando le ali nel modo indicato nella figura 3. Le ali possono avere forme differenti, per esempio tali da conferire alla protezione la forma di sella della figura, ma possono anche essere per esempio rettangolari o quadrate. Secondo un aspetto preferito esse sono sostanzialmente a spessore costante. Il dispositivo può essere realizzato in materiale opportuno, per esempio in materiale flessibile come la gommapiuma avente adeguata elasticità e leggerezza, per esempio gommapiuma con elasticità tra 10 e 30 SM, per esempio circa 21 SM. Anche altri materiali possono essere scelti in funzione della leggerezza, morbidezza e biocompatibilità con il manto dell’animale, per esempio tessuti imbottiti o altro. In corrispondenza della estremità anteriore 4 della protezione è presente la sporgenza 5. Preferibilmente essa è unita al corpo centrale 1 e si estende dalla parte opposta rispetto allo spazio 3. La sporgenza è in genere più rigida rispetto al resto della protezione, anche se può essere preferibilmente scelto in materiale sufficientemente morbido e leggero da evitare traumi o fastidi all’animale, per esempio agglomerato di gomma, gommapiuma più rigida o altri materiali naturali o sintetici. Questo per evitare facili scavalcamenti della sporgenza da parte della coperta. I vari spigoli sono preferibilmente arrotondati e l’unione tra i vari pezzi può essere fatta in modo noto ed opportuno a seconda dei materiali impiegati. In figura 5 è mostrato come la protezione viene utilizzata. La coperta copre l’animale 11 come di consueto, mentre la protezione è collocata al disotto della coperta, in posizione con l’estremità anteriore 4 in corrispondenza del garrese. Si nota il rigonfiamento 11 della coperta in corrispondenza della protezione. La sporgenza 5 rimane libera dalla coperta ed impedisce al bordo 12 di scavalcarla, in modo che il bordo non possa venire a contatto delle parti più sensibili del manto dell’animale. L’altezza della sporgenza sarà tale da raggiungere tale scopo anche in considerazione della flessibilità dei materiali scelti. Per esempio l’altezza può essere di almeno 5, preferibilmente 7-8 cm. La lunghezza della protezione può essere, se di gommapiuma, per esempio tra 30 e 60 cm, la loro altezza tra 20 e 40 cm. Lo spessore delle ali può essere di alcuni cm, per esempio da 3 a 6, come pure la distanza tra le ali quando non deformate. Lo spessore del corpo centrale 1 analogo a quello delle ali, o preferibilmente di qualche cm maggiore. La superficie delimitante lo spazio 3, in corrispondenza del corpo centrale, destinata a venire posta in corrispondenza della spina dorsale, può essere opportunamente arrotondata come mostrato nelle figure. Claims

CLAIMS 1. Protection for animal withers, in particular horse, in elastic material having an elongated central body (1) from which two wings (2) branch off, said protection being able to be applied to the back of said animal, inserting the back between the two wings, until the central body rests on the back in correspondence with the backbone, said protection presenting, at one end, a protrusion (5) able to hold the edge (12) of a blanket (10) applied over said protection.

2. A protection according to claim 1, wherein the projection is joined to the central body and extends in a direction substantially opposite to said wings.

3. Protection according to claim 1 or 2, in which said wings and said central body are made of foam rubber, preferably integrally with each other.

4. A protection according to any preceding claim, wherein said protrusion is of more rigid material than the wings and the central body.

5. Protection according to any preceding claim, provided with a coating, preferably removable.

6. Protection according to claim 5, in which the part of the coating between the wings and intended to come into contact with the animal's coat is treated to have antibacterial properties, optionally with colloidal silver.

7. Method of protecting the withers of an animal, in particular a horse, comprising the application to the animal of a protection according to any preceding claim with said projection placed in front and the subsequent application of a blanket, above said protection, in so that said projection remains uncovered.
