Abstract

Aryl-heterocyclic compounds of formula (I) are new. Y = H, Cl, F, Br or 1-4C alkyl, haloalkyl, alkoxy, haloalkoxy, alkylthio or haloalkylthio; Z = O or S; Q = C(R1)(R2)Ctriple boundCC(R3)(R4)Z1(CO)pR, C(R1)(R2)Ctriple boundC(CR3R4)qAr, C(R1)(R2)CX1=CX2COOR, C(R1)(R2)CX1=CX2CONR5R6, C(R1)(R2)CX1=C(X2)CX3=C(X4)COOR, C(R1)(R2)CX1=CX2COR3 or C(R1)(R2)CX1=CX2C(R3)=NOR; R = H; 1-6C alkyl or haloalkyl; 3-6C cycloalkyl; 4-9C cycloalkylalkyl; 3-6C cyanoalkyl; 3-6C alkoxyalkyl; oxo-ethanyl or tetrahydrofuryl, both optionally substituted by 1-4C alkyl; or phenyl, 7-9C phenylalkyl or pyridyl, all 3 optionally substituted by halo, alkyl, haloalkyl, 1-4C alkoxy or haloalkoxy; R1-R4 = H or 1-4C alkyl or haloalkyl; R5, R6 = H or 1-4C alkyl; or R5+R6 = 2-5C alkylene or oxyalkylene; Ar = phenyl or pyridyl, both optionally substituted by halo or 1-4C alkyl, haloalkyl, alkoxy or haloalkoxy; X1-X4 = H, halo or 1-4C alkyl, haloalkyl, alkoxy or haloalkoxy; Z1 = O or S; p, q = 0 or 1; E = a heterocyclic group of formula E1-E8; Rb = 1-3C alkyl; R7 = 1-6C alkyl or haloalkyl; R8 = H or 1-6C alkoxy, haloalkoxy, alkylthio or haloalkylthio; R9, R10 = H or 1-6C alkyl; or R9+R10 = 2-5C alkylene or oxyalkylene; X5 = H or halo; r = 1 or 2; and s = 0-2. Also claimed are herbicidal compositions comprising (I) and optionally solid carriers, liquid diluents, surfactants or other active substances; where the concentration of active agent is preferably 1-90%.
