Abstract

Device for detecting surface defects in a metal bar or wire in motion in which first coils 29 generate an alternating magnetic field that causes parasite surface currents in the bar 11 that, in the second coil 13, generate a secondary magnetic field, the said first 29 and second 13 coils being coaxial and at least the said second coil 13 consisting of a pair of coils 13a-13b, the said first 29 and second 13 coils defining a measuring group 12, having at least two measuring groups 12 with a longitudinal axis moving from an open position fig. 2a, in which the various longitudinal axes are coincident with the nominal axis of movement of the bar 11, to an inspection position fig. 2b, in which the said longitudinal axes are essentially parallel to the nominal axis of movement of the said bar 11 and are positioned essentially equidistant on a circumference whose centre is essentially coincident with the said axis of movement. <IMAGE>
