Abstract

A mushroom harvesting aid is provided for mechanisation of the grading and sorting process immediately following picking of mushrooms with a view to substantially increasing the productivity of the pickers. The mushroom harvesting aid comprises a conveyor (4) supported on a preferably mobile frame (1) adapted to straddle an area where the mushrooms to be harvested are growing, wherein the conveyor is subdivided in a manner which assists the grading of mushrooms placed thereon, with means to drive the conveyor towards a collection area (16) at one end thereof. The conveyor belt may be perforated with differently sized perforations in rows to accommodate mushroom stems according to grade size, and a blade (8) may be located under the belt to slice off the stems before the mushrooms reach the collection area, where the different grade sizes may be diverted into collection boxes (16).
