Abstract

1398160 Tray and closure DART INDUSTRIES Inc 1 Nov 1972 [2 Nov 1971] 50420/72 Heading A4A [Also in Division B8] A container 10 for storing and serving foodstuffs comprises: a tray 22 having a bottom wall 28 integral with an upwardly extending side wall 34, the bottom wall including raised ribs (30), Fig. 1 (not shown) the tray having an outwardly extending peripheral ledge 24 and a peripheral sealing member 26 projecting downwardly from the ledge 24 and terminating in an outwardly extending peripheral lip 36; and a closure 12 having a top wall 14 and downwardly extending side walls 18 which include a sealing flange 20 having an inner surface arranged to sealingly engage the outer surface of the sealing member 26 of the tray, and an outwardly protruding peripheral rim 42 positioned such that it is proximate the ledge 24 when the closure is sealingly engaged on the tray. The tray may be used inverted with an extension 38 of the side wall 34 positioning the closure over the inverted tray. The tray is capable of withstanding the placement thereon of hot perishables.
