Abstract
The invention relates to a tobacco filter for smoking products in which the tobacco material selected for the filter or parts thereof are subjected to a thermal treatment during the tobacco preparation process.
Description
Technical Field
The invention relates to a filter-tipped cigarette with a tobacco filter and to a method for producing such a filter-tipped cigarette.
Background
It has long been known that tobacco can be used as a filter material in smoking articles. However, tobacco has a significantly lower retention of condensate and nicotine at the same smoking resistance than other conventional filter materials such as cellulose (paper) or cellulose acetate. Moreover, when using traditional tobacco blends like those used in cigarettes, it is not easy to obtain the same resistance to smoking as a normal cellulose filter or a filter made of cellulose acetate, i.e. between 50 and 100mm of water column for a filter length of 21 mm.
To overcome this drawback, various solutions have been proposed, one being the manufacture of filter portions from tobacco with stems. However, this results in a poor taste. Another proposal is to make the filter part from expanded tobacco, but this produces only a very low retention effect and therefore an unsatisfactory filtering effect. Finally, it is proposed to use very finely cut tobacco as the filtering portion; however, this is not possible on conventional machines and therefore results in filters that are too costly.
Disclosure of Invention
The object of the present invention is therefore to produce filters for smoking articles from tobacco, which do not have the drawbacks mentioned in the prior art.
This object is achieved by a filter cigarette with a tobacco filter comprising the following features: a cigarette section wrapped with cigarette paper; wherein the tobacco blend of the tobacco rod segments comprises 15-30% of shredded central stems; for a cigarette having a 63 mm length and a 55 mm smoking length, the cigarette has a smoke condensate yield of between 15 and 19 mg of condensate; with a filter made of aromatic tobacco, the smoking resistance at 21 mm length is between 50-100mm water column; with a filter ventilation zone in the peripheral direction; wherein the filter is ventilated to a degree of 30-70%, characterized in that filter tobacco is manufactured without a central stem and without reconstituted tobacco having a cut width of 0.3-0.6 mm; the tobacco filling density of the filter is 350-450mg/cm3。
The result is therefore that using aromatic tobacco as tobacco filter, the taste of the smoke is very strongly characterized by the filter material. It has been shown that the advantageous taste-improving effect is again significantly enhanced by the specific treatment of the selected tobacco. To this end, the selected tobacco material or portions thereof are subjected to a heat treatment as described below.
Detailed Description
And (3) heat treatment:
during the tobacco preparation process, the tobacco temperature is raised to 60-150 deg.C, preferably 80-130 deg.C, and the heating time is 1 min to 15 min at the maximum. During this time, it is subjected to a relative humidity of 40-80%, preferably 50-70%. This significantly improves the flavour transfer from the filter tobacco to the passing smoke. This effect can be selectively influenced and enhanced by the addition of suitable jacket materials. Typical filter smoking resistance of 50-100mm water column can be achieved with significantly improved retention efficiency when selecting finer cut widths of 0.3-0.6 mm (0.7-1.0 mm is common for cigarette cut tobacco) that can still be processed on standard machinery. This resistance to draw is also commonly referred to as the "normal" or common resistance to draw. However, the retention efficiency is still significantly lower compared to common filter materials, reaching about 30-60% for cellulose acetate, and only in the range of about 25-35% for tobacco filters, but the lower retention efficiency can be compensated for using a mixture of tobacco sections with significantly reduced condensation. This means that the cigarette section used, when smoked on a smoking machine, produces about 16 mg of condensate rather than the usual about 23 mg of condensate. While such blends can be made with a high proportion of tobacco stems or inexpensive tobacco, which blends do not taste particularly good, the taste of the smoke unexpectedly acquires a pleasant aroma when passed through a tobacco filter.
