993,086. Continuous casting. INSTITUT DE RECHERCHES DE LA SIDERURGIE FRANCAISE. Aug. 23, 1963 [Sept. 4, 1962], No. 33393/63. Heading B3F. Apparatus for horizontal continuous casting comprises a molten metal receiver 1 with an outlet nozzle 7 which connects via a cylindrical portion 11 to a refractory duct 9 extending through an electromagnetic pump 8. From the pump 8 the duct 9 is connected through a double walled duct 15 to a water cooled horizontal casting mould 13. Metal flowing from the receiver into the duct 9 is forced by the magnetic pump through the duet and into the casting mould where the exit of the bar is controlled by means of rollers 26a and 26b. Lubricant may be supplied to the surface of the bar as it enters the mould, at the commencement of solidification, through holes 20 at the flange 18, and such lubricant may be rapeseed oil with or without powdered graphite in suspension. A three phase electrical circuit for the magnetic pump is described.
