Abstract
999,938. Multi-cell centrifugal separators. AEROTEC INDUSTRIES Inc. Feb. 27, 1964, No. 8203/64. Heading B2P. A centrifugal separator for removing solid and liquid particles from gas under pressure, e.g. natural gas issuing from a well, comprises an upright cylindrical container 10 in which are mounted lower and upper separating units 11, 12 each consisting of lower and upper tube sheets 13, 14 between, above and below which are respectively formed a supply chamber 15, an offtake chamber 20 or 21, and a collecting chamber 17 or 18, the chambers 18 and 21 being separated by a collecting hopper 26 and centrifugal tubes 16 being mounted in the lower tube sheets 13 to receive gas to be cleaned which is fed through inlets 16a to the supply chambers 15 and to deliver separated particles to the collecting chambers 17, 18 provided with separate drainage pipes, e.g. 27, and cleaned gas, via offtake pipes 19 mounted in the upper tube sheets 14 to the offtake chambers 20, 21 which are provided with outlets 22, 23. The collecting chamber 17 is also bounded at its lower part by a hopper 26. Normally closed inspection openings are provided at 28, 29. Each centrifugal tube 16 is provided with two oppositely directed and diametrically opposite tangential inlets. The gas to be cleaned is supplied to the inlets 16a through a pipe 32 having branches 33, 34. The gas flow to one or the other of the separating units may be interrupted by.shut-off valves 35, 36. The cleaned gas is discharged from the outlets 22, 23 to a main 39. The separator may be provided with three or four separating units.
