Abstract

Derivatives of thiourea dioxide are made by mixing a primary alkyl, aralkyl or cycloalkylamine having four or more carbon atoms with thiourea dioxide in approximately equimolar proportions in an aqueous alcoholic medium at below 10 DEG C., and isolating the salt which is formed. The thiourea dioxide may be slurried with methanol/water and cooled to 0 DEG to 10 DEG C. and the equimolar amount of amine in methanol/water may be added thereto, or an alkali may be added to the slurry of thiourea dioxide and a water-soluble salt, e.g. acetate of the amine is added thereto. The compound is stated to have the formula <FORM:0998975/C2/1> where R is the organic residue of the amine, particularly sec.-butyl or n-nonyl. The examples give the preparation of the sec.-butylamine, n-nonylamine and benzylamine salts using aqueous methanol as reaction medium.
