Abstract

997,710. Securing elements to shafts. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. May 22, 1964 [May 23, 1963], No. 20656/63. Heading F2U. [Also in Division G1] A bolt with head 3 is axially divided into resilient fingers 6 each with an ear 7 and is coupled to a plate 8 by inserting the fingers 6 in at least one hole in the plate 8 so that the ears 7 abut at least one surface of the plate 8 to prevent withdrawal and so that the fingers 6 abut surfaces of the plate 8 to transmit rotation through the coupling. For use as a zero adjuster in an indicating-instrument the plate 8 has an eccentric pin 13 inside a casing 1 for manipulation by the head 3 outside. Polythene washers 12 provide dust seals and sufficient friction to prevent free rotation of the head 3. Preferably, the bolt and plate are formed of non-brittle plastics material such as polypropylene and two similar fingers 6 are provided. In one embodiment, the ears 7 are received in diametrically opposed recesses 10 and sufficient friction for driving is ensured by the insertion of a spring washer 11. In another embodiment a single hole in the plate 8 is divided by a bar which is a sliding fit between the pair of fingers 6 and provides a direct drive.
