997,620. Blackboards; balancing arrangements. F. BONG. Nov. 27, 1963, No. 46783/63. Heading B6P. [Also in Division B8] A counterbalancing system for supporting a vertically sliding blackboard 1, Fig. 1, comprises bearing cords 8, 9 attached to a pulley 6, yieldingly held against rotation by a spring unit 23 acting through a cord 18 which wraps over a cam 7 operating to change the effective radius and maintain a substantially constant lifting force on the board. In the example of Fig. 1, the cord 9 passes over a freely-rotating pulley 10, both pulleys being attached to a fixed part of the frame. In modifications, both pulleys may carry spring-loaded cams 6 and are interconnected by a crossed cord to synchronize the movements on opposite sides. In a further example the pulleys and springs may be mounted on the back of the board and the cords attached to fixed parts of the framework.
