Abstract

996,203. Pad applicators. L. S. FOUNTAIN. Oct. 10, 1961, No. 36336/61. Heading A4K. [Also in Division B2] A liquid applying device comprises a hollow base portion 1 (e.g. of plastic or metal) housing a separate liquid container or reservoir 2 (e.g. of glass) and a top fitting for attachment to the hollow base portion, embodying a pad or block 7 of absorbent material (e.g. felt or rubber), the liquid being conveyed from the reservoir 2 to pad 7 via tubes 10 and 12 when the device is used. The tube 10 has a sealing ring 11 attached thereto which engages neck 3 of reservoir 2 to form a liquid tight seal therewith. A closure piece 5 for the base portion 1 has a bore 4 aligned with neck 3 of reservoir 2 and holds the glass reservoir 2 in the base portion 1. The device may have a screw-on or slide-on closure cap 14 conforming to the shape of the pad 7. The top fitting may be a snapfit or sliding fit into or on to the base portion, may be held on by a spring clip within the hollow base portion engaging over a shoulder or other catch surface in the top fitting or vice versa, or may be of cylindrical form and screw-threaded on to or into the base portion.
