Abstract

995,396. Aerials. GRANGER ASSOCIATES. July 31, 1963 [Aug. 7, 1962], No. 30443/63. Heading H4A. A logarithmic periodic directional aerial comprises a series of spaced triangular toothed structures 1, 2 (Fig. 1) hanging from a catenary 3 which is suspended from a post 19 at the apex of the aerial so that the toothed structures lie in a vertical plane, the dimensions of these structures progressively increasing with distance from the apex. The catenary 3, of fibreglass or like insulating material, is suspended at the rear of the aerial from a mast 8 and further cables 6 of insulating material support the conductors 1, 2 of the aerial elements. These conductors are bonded at their lower ends to the centre tube or longeron 12 of a ground plane structure (Fig. 8, not shown) and are capacitatively coupled to a feed line 11, Fig. 6, enclosed in polythene 18, and which extends along the array being inclined upwardly from the ground plane towards the rear of the aerial. A cable 14 extends parallel to the line 11 to form a distributed capacitor for the coupling and the catenary is provided at the apex with a tension indicator. Specification 909,660 is referred to.
