Abstract
994,578. Extruding hollow concrete sections. SPIROLL CORPORATION Ltd. Jan. 23, 1964 [Jan. 25, 1963], No. 3169/63. Heading B5A. A machine 11 for extruding hollow cored reinforced concrete sections comprises a frame defining a moulding chamber 25 containing one or more rotatable core forming mandrels 22, one or more rotatable tapered augers 15 for feeding concrete mix to the moulding chamber and arcuate shield portions 40 spaced below the or each auger. The machine 11 extrudes the concrete section rearwardly on to a pallet 10 whilst moving forwardly in the direction 12. The concrete mix is fed from the hopper 14 by augers 15 situated in feed chamber 17 through to the moulding chamber 25 in which the mandrels 22 and mandrel followers 23 situated at the ends of the augers, shape the hollow concrete section in conjunction with the framework of the machine 11 and the pallet 10 around the reinforcing cables 52. The concrete is vibrated whilst being extruded by a vibrator 24 mounted on the frame of machine 11 and by secondary vibrators 33 comprising eccentrically mounted weights contained within each of the rotatable mandrels 22. The augers 15 and mandrels 22 are driven by a motor 19 through gearing 21, 20. Below each auger 15 are the semi-cylindrical shield portions 40 to prevent the mix packing on the pallet 10, linked together by side portions 43. From the arcuate portions 40 depend inclined cable shields 53, 54, 55 to prevent the pressure of the concrete mix moving the reinforcing cables 52 out of position. Two, three and four auger machines are disclosed. The embodiment of Fig. 8 (not shown) is used for making cylindrical concrete pipes, and has a semi-cylindrical frame which slides along an inverted semicylindrical pallet to produce the requisite cross-section of pipe.
