Abstract

987,865. Non-inductive electrically heated enclosures. PERKIN-ELMER Ltd. Aug. 4, 1961 [Nov. 16, 1960], No. 39372/60. Heading H5H. An electric heater includes one or more heating elements each made up of parts arranged in pairs, the parts of each pair being arranged closely adjacent one another and such that they can conduct current in opposite directions, whereby to minimize the resultant magnetic field, and one or more electrically conductive temperature-sensitive elements supported by a heat-conductive screen, and each of which is also made up of parts arranged, in pairs, in a manner similar to that of the heating elements. A box, Figs. 1 and 2, made up of six heating panels, e.g. 1a, each formed of an aluminium sheet 6 having on one surface a pair of aluminium resistance strips 7 insulated from one another and the aluminium sheet by paper, and provided at their ends with terminals 13 to 16. On the opposite side of the sheet 6 are arranged a pair of temperature-sensitive resistance wires 18, provided separately with terminals and located, with respect to the heating strips, along lines of intermediate temperature of sheet 6. The wires are connected to a bridge network to supply current to the heating strips if the temperature falls below a predetermined value. The panels 2 and 3 forming the top and bottom of the box are each provided with a central aperture, to allow access and permit air circulation by a fan. The openings may be closed by doors which constitute further heating panels, and the box may house the magnet of a nuclear magnetic resonance apparatus. The heater elements may, alternatively, be embedded in the heating panel.
