Abstract

A process for the production of a multiaxially stretched perfluorinated ionomer membrane for use in an electrochemical cell, which process comprises extruding the perfluorinated ionomer membrane precursor through a film blowing head comprising a die with a circular orifice, forming a thin-walled continuous tube, expanding the tube by means of internal pressure, and cooling the expanded tube in order to cause the perfluorinated ionomer precursor to solidify as a film.
