Abstract

3,3,3-Trifluoropropene is prepared by reacting ethylene or ethane at 250 DEG -1,000 DEG C. and 0.5-5 atmospheres pressure and a contact time of 0.1-10 seconds, with CF3Br or CF3Cl. The contact time relates to the period spent by the reactant gases at a temperature within 100 DEG C. of the reaction temperature. Fluoroform is obtained as by-product.
