Abstract

979,574. Change-speed control. AUSTIN MOTOR CO. Ltd. Nov. 11, 1963 [Nov. 5, 1962], No. 41696/62. Heading F2D. Cross shift and gear establishing movements of a ball-mounted remote control lever 1 are transmitted independently to a selector finger 18 of a motor-vehicle change-speed gear by push-pull Bowden cables 16, 11 respectively, the former receiving movement through a slotted bell-crank 6, the latter directly from a slide 8. The selector finger 18 is secured to a rock-shaft 17 longitudinally moved by the cross-shift cable 16 for selection amongst three striker rods 18, 19, 20; and is turned by cable 11 for gear establishment by a forked slide 12 embracing an arm 22 splined on the rock-shaft 17. A spring loaded plunger 30 resists unintentional cross-shift to reverse.
