Abstract
976,603. Granulating powder. ZINKWEISS-FORSCHUNGSGESELLSCHAFT. Nov. 27, 1961 [Nov. 15, 1962], No. 43220/62. Heading B5A. Dry powder, e.g. zinc oxide, is formed into granules in a continuously rotating drum 5 (Fig. 1), whose inner peripheral surface is fitted with baffles which direct the powder along a generally helical path, the baffles being arranged in pairs so that powder passing therebetween is successively pressed together by converging baffles and released prior to reaching the next pair. Baffles are half-annular. An inner drum 7 (Fig. 3) may urge powder on to the baffles (Fig. 4, not shown). Drum 7 may have external baffles and may rotate with or against drum 5 or remain stationary. Initially drum 7 is coaxial with drum 5, but is moved radially to initiate the second, completion stage of granulation. Granulated material added to the initial powder may accelerate the process. Drum 5 may be inclined for continuous operation, material being fed in at one end.
