Abstract

962,676. Boots &c. non-skid soles. I.T.S. RUBBER Ltd. Dec. 11, 1962 [Dec. 11, 1961], No. 44193/61. Heading A3B. Ribs, cleats or projections 11, 17 in a moulded sole 10, Figs. 1, 2, or heel 16, Fig. 3. of rubber or the like are provided with inserts 13, 19, respectively, of hard material, e.g. metal or synthetic resin, having knurled or otherwise roughened groundengaging surfaces which stand proud of the corresponding surfaces of the projections. Retention of the inserts may in each case be assisted by bonding of the metal insert to the rubber, and, in the case of heels since the head portions of the T- sectioned inserts lie flush with the outer edge of the heel and are not embedded in the material as in the case of soles, the stem portions have holes (not shown) filled by the sole material during moulding and this provides for additional retention.
