Abstract

969,687. Harnesses. G.Q. PARACHUTE CO. Ltd. June 10, 1963 [June 8, 1962], No. 22268/62. Heading A3V. A harness for workmen, constructed so that should the wearer fall he will be supported in a sitting position, comprises a seat sling unit 13, Fig. 1, having leg straps 15, and a waist and side strap unit 27, Fig 2, having D-rings 30 on its ends. The webbing of this strap is brought back on itself and doubled to form loops 29, the part of the unit between loops 29 and D-rings 30 constituting the side strap. The two units are connected by flexible rings 31, 32 (Fig. 6) of cord, string or the like. In use D-rings 30 are connected to hooks on e.g. the window frame, the weight of the wearer being carried through the waist and side-straps to the fixed support. Should the wearer slip, the loops 29 in the side straps slide on rings 31, 32 or these rings distort so that the weight of the wearer is transferred from the waist strap 27 to the seat-sling 13 and the wearer is supported in a sitting position. Additional parts such as chest and shoulder straps (Fig. 6) and an adjustable waist belt may be provided if a full harness is required. Additional supporting straps 11 carrying D-rings 10 and having loops 12 which pass through rings 31, 32, may also be provided, the D-rings being connected to further supporting hooks. Parts of the harness may pass through guiding tunnels in a protective overall. The harness is readily dismantled to repair or replace damaged strap elements.
