Abstract

Asbestos paper contains 0.05 to 5% by weight on the weight of the asbestos of a copolymer of an alkyl vinyl ether and maleic anhydride, the alkyl group of the ether containing from one to four carbon atoms. The copolymer may be added to the aqueous dispersion of fibres from which the sheet is made. The product is stable to heat and flame. The Specification also describes for purposes of comparison asbestos papers in which the binder is starch.
