956,476. Pyrophoric lighters. E. KORNER. Feb. 8, 1961 [Feb. 8, 1960], No. 4723/61. Heading F4F. The burner cover 1 of a pyrophoric lighter is locked in the closed position by a toggle linkage 15, 16 whilst rotation of a finger actuated member 5 compresses a spring 7, until a pin 21 on the member 5 engages one end 16a of the link 16 to unlock the toggle linkage and allow the spring 7 to open the cover 1 and rotate a friction wheel 3. The spring 7 is mounted on a rod 6 carrying a rigid abutment 9 and a sliding abutment 8 connected by a pin 24 to the member 5. A spring 14 returns the mechanism to its original position when the member 5 is released, a spring 24 ensuring that the toggle linkage 15, 16 is restored to the locked position against a stop 13. In another construction the spring 7 may be arranged above the toggle linkage to pull instead of push open the cover 1. 1.
