Abstract

955,826. Feeding webs. C. A. MEIERWINDHORST. May 12, 1960 [May 13, 1959], No. 16720/60. Heading B6B. [Also in Division D1] A web 16 to be heat treated is fed through a chamber 1 by endless belts 6, 7, the belt 6 passing around a drying cylinder 2 housing heating means. The belt 6 is guided by rollers 20, 26, 25, 19, 24, 28, 22, and 21, the rollers 28, 22 being adjustably mounted to tension the belt 6. The belt 7 is guided by rollers 17, 18, the roller 17 being movably mounted. Feed rollers 31, 32 are driven at a variable speed relative to the speed of the belt 6 to tension the web 16. The chamber 1 has entry and exit slots 4, 5 and a box 8 provided with entry and exit slots 9, 10. The slots are provided with packing elements, e.g., 12-12<SP>1</SP>, so as to reduce leakage of pressure, e.g. steam pressure, from the chamber. The belts 6, 7 may be of gaspermeable material or may have a layer to protect the web from contact with metal when the belts are of metal Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 879,091.
