Abstract

942,578. Drying apparatus. FLEISSNER G.m.b.H. Feb. 7, 1961 [Feb. 17, 1960], No. 4551/61. Heading F4G. A sieve drum drier comprises drums 2 . . . 7, Fig. 1, wherein the effective peripheral surface of drum 2 is small in order to retain material to be dried about the drum is at its wettest and heaviest and the effective areas of the succeeding drums 3 and 4 are increased from drum to drum as the material progressively becomes drier and lighter. The increase in effective areas is achieved both by having different sizes of masking means within the drums and by having the axes of the drums 3 and 4 in staggered relative position. In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown) the axes of the three drums nearest the entrance of the drier housing are arranged obliquely, the material travelling only over the top surface thereof and further drums being arranged thereafter on a horizontal plane and about which the material circuitously is carried. In a further modification (Fig. 3, not shown) a combination of these embodiments comprises the axes of the first three drums being arranged obliquely and the axes of alternate following drums lying in the same horizontal plane. In an embodiment the axes of drums 23, 23a, 30 and drums 26, 28, 31 respectively lie in parallel planes and the material follows a circuitous path thereabout by presser bands 24, 25, 27, 27a and 29 interposed between the drums to retain the material in position about the drums.
