946,811. Vehicle bumpers; boat fenders. BALDWIN-MONTROSE CHEMICAL CO. Inc. July 27, 1961 [Aug. 22, 1960], No. 27202/61. Headings B7J and B7S. A two-piece vehicle bumper or boat fender comprises a rubber or like strip 14 having a pair of gripping portions 20 defining a channel to receive a cylindrical tubular member 16 of rubber or the like, the gripping portions compressing the member 16 when the bumper is assembled. The strip 14 has a concave mounting surface 18 which is straightened when the bumper is mounted on the vehicle by means of rails 28. The bumper is provided with end members each having a plug portion which plugs extend into the ends of the tubular member 16, the end members being secured, by means to the vehicle. According to a modification, the strip 14 when used as a boat fender is provided at one side throughout its length with an integrally formed splash-rail.
