Abstract
946,634. Soap impregnated scouring pads. BRILLO MANUFACTING CO. Inc. Feb. 8, 1962 [Feb. 9, 1961], No. 4846/62. Headings A4F and A4R. In a scouring pad a flexible backing sheet 10 has secured to it, e.g. by adhesive, a layer of mineral or metal wool 11 shaped in a pattern of alternate raised 25 and depressed 27 areas and impregnated with a solid soap, -the bulk of which is held within the raised areas to serve as reservoirs dissolved progressively as the wool is worn away in use. The backing sheet may comprise high wet strength paper or synthetic plastic coated if desired on the working (abrasive) side with detergent (of different type to the soap) and/or a material resisting moisture penetration, and creped or corrugated as at 10a on the finger side for improved gripping. The metal e.g. steel, wool, may be corrugated, Fig. 1, or comprise individual projections (Fig. 2, not shown), the shaping being effected before or after securing it to the backing sheet. The pad may have a marginal compressed band 20 and decorative rib 21, and be provided with a finger loop and/or tab. A means of filling the wool with liquid soap which subsequently solidifies is described.
