Abstract

932,056. Treating solids with liquids. INVENTA A.G. FUR FORSCHUNG UND PATENTVERWALTUNG. Aug. 25, 1959 [Dec. 11, 1958], No. 29072/59. Class 82. A process for continuous counter-current treatment of granular solids with liquid of lower specific gravity by feeding them through a solids inlet 1 down a vertical column 2, up which liquid flows, and into a discharge tube 9 through a solids outlet 8, above which is situated an inlet 4 through which the liquid is fed into the column 2, which has outlets 7, 24, 25 through which part of the liquid is withdrawn and which can give a total withdrawal rate greater than that for feeding liquid into the column 2, the remaining liquid passing through the outlet 8 to propel the solids along the tube 9. In the form shown the tube 9 leads to a point above the outlet 8 and above the inlet 1 and to a solids separator (e.g. a screw conveyer 11 with a perforated tube), the liquid then being recycled to the inlet 4 through a pipe 14, the solids being carried to a pipe 12 leading to the next working stage. The column 2 may have a jacket 17 to heat or cool to maintain it at a specific temperature. The liquid outlet 6 has a pump or valve 7 therein to make it adjustable and the outlet(s) 22 and/or 23 may be adjustable.
