Abstract
938,328. Fastening railway rails. SEETRU Ltd. April 6, 1960 [April 8, 1959], No. 11806/59. Class 104 (2). In a fastening for flat bottom rails a baseplate 4 is provided with a central trough on the base 10 of which the rail 1 is located and has a shoulder 16 for locating one edge 3 of rail foot, the other edge 2 of the rail foot being held in position by a wedge strip 18 extending the width of the base-plate 4 between the rail edge 2 and the other wall 17 of the trough and secured in position by a bolt 6 secured to the sleeper 12 and/or base-plate 4. The bolts 5 or 6 engage nuts 24 moulded to the lower ends of the rubber sleeves 21 or 22. The nuts 26 have spigotted thereto steel sleeves 25. When the bolts 5 or 6 are tightened the nuts 26, together with the sleeves 25, are drawn upwards and rubber sleeves 21 or 22 are expanded to grip the walls of holes in the sleeper. The limit of tightening the bolts 5, 6 is determined by the end of the sleeves engaging a wall 27 in a recess in the base-plate 4. The wedge 18 is tightened by the bolt 6 when the sleeve 25 engages the bottom of the recess. The tops of the rubber sleeves 21, 22 are provided with lips 30 to prevent the sleeves 21, 22 falling into the sleeper holes. The lips 30 are engaged in depressions 31 or 32 in the base-plate 4 to prevent rotation when the bolts 5 or 6 are tightened. The nuts 26 are provided with corrugations which may be of a wavy conformation circumferentially. The bolts can have their heads bottom-most in the sleeper and protuding threads to which nuts and washers are attached.
