Abstract
937,857. Tapping apparatus. INGENJORSFIRMA A. ALFREDEEN A.B. Oct. 12, 1961 [Oct. 13, 1960], No. 36602/61. Class 83 (3). [Also in Group XXIV] In a holder for a screw-threading tap of which the driving and driven members 11, 24 are coupled together by groups of balls 26 located in complementary axial grooves 23, 25 in the respective members, the groups of balls are each retained in position by a metal band 30, Fig. 4. The upper end of the band is secured to the driven member 24 by a ring 34, the band passing downwards between the member and the balls, and around the lowermost ball, the lower end being secured to the driving member 11 by a second ring 35. By this means the groups of balls maintain the same axial position relative to the members 11, 24 if ball detents 10 loaded by springs 15, 16 slip upon overload, resulting in axial displacement of members 11, 24. A manually adjustable ratchet ring 19 enables the force exerted on the detents 10 by a loading spring 21 to be varied. Two bands, Fig. 5 (not shown), or a series of threads or wires may be used instead of the single band.
