Abstract
936,499. Bobbins. C. T. W. HEADING. Nov. 14, 1960, No. 39033/60. Class 120 (3). A transformer or like bobbin comprises a rectangular cross-section tube 1 having a rectangular-apertured cheek plate 2 at each end mounted thereon, each plate 2 being a push fit over the tube end and being held in line with inset edges 4 by edges 7 of the aperture 3 interlocked with recesses 5 or 6. In one embodiment, Figs. 1 and 2, tongues 8 engage slots 5 in the tube 1. In a modification, Fig. 4, the edges 7 which may be curved snap into grooves 6 as the cheeks 2 are pushed into position. The bobbin is made of insulating material, e.g. treated paper, fibre, synthetic plastic or a combination of these materials. A paper tube 1 may be made by winding paper strip around a mandrel and treating it before or after winding with wax. If the bobbin is made of synthetic plastic the tube 1 and cheeks 2 may be moulded and the cheeks are heated to enable them to be positioned on the tube and they are then cooled.
