Abstract

The invention comprises 17 - epi-oestriol derivatives of the general formula <FORM:0911600/IV (b)/1> (wherein R1 is an aliphatic hydrocarbon radical of 1 to 6 carbon atoms and the symbols R2 either both represent hydrogen atoms or both represent acyl radicals derived from carboxylic acids of 1 to 12 carbon atoms) and the preparation thereof by etherifying 17-epi-oestriol and then, if desired, esterifying the 3-ether so formed. A dialkyl sulphate, an alkyl halide, an alkyl p-toluene sulphonate or a diazoalkane may be used for the etherification, and the free carboxylic acid or a halide or anhydride thereof for the esterification. Examples are given and a list of esterifying acids is also provided.
