Abstract

918,988. Pneumatic tyre treads. PIRELLI S.p.A. Sept. 17, 1959 [May 15, 1959], No. 31734/59. Class 144 (2). A pneumatic tyre tread comprises four axially-spaced narrow circumferential channels 1 each formed with circumferentially-spaced parallelogram-shaped widened portions 2 which are staggered centrally relatively to those of the adjacent channels, the successive portions of channel between the widened portions 2 in each channel being laterally offset by an amount equal to the width of the channel with alternate said portions being circumferentially aligned. As shown, opposite corners of each widened portion 2 open into grooves 3, 4 respectively of different length, each of which extend in the same direction at an angle of 45 degrees to the circumferential and the grooves 3, 4 extending from each channel being at right-angles to those extending from the adjacent channels. The grooves extending from the laterally outer channels into laterally outer, ribs 5, 6 are extended laterally into grooves 8 which are spaced by lateral grooves 7 in the ribs 5, 6 extending radially into the shoulder regions B. The laterally outer edges of the ribs 5, 6 are scalloped with the grooves 7 and 8 positioned centrally of the arcuate recesses 10 thereof and the ridges 12 thereof are removed over the radially outer portions 11. The grooves 8 have tongues 9 upstanding from their bases to terminate below the tread surface.
