Abstract
A permanent magnet alloy contains in percentage by weight: .Ni.11.75 - 12.5 .Al.8.0 - 8.5 .Co.22.75 - 23.75 .Cu.2.75 - 3.25 .Nb.0.20 - 0.35 .Si.0.20 - 0.35 .S.0.05 - 0.35 .Fe.balance The alloy is cooled in a magnetic field at a rate of 0.25 DEG C to 1 DEG C. per second from the range 930-950 DEG C. to below 625 DEG C., and is then aged in the range 625-550 DEG C., preferably first in the range 625-580 DEG C. for at least 8 hours, and then in the range 580-550 DEG C. for at least 10 hours, followed by final magnetization. The alloy may be prepared by melting or by powder metallurgy methods; magnetization may be carried out during cooling in the mould or from the sintering temperature, or the magnets may be reheated to 930-950 DEG C.
