Abstract

A process for the preparation of a glycol ether by reacting an olefin oxide with an alcohol over a catalyst; characterised in that the catalyst is an anionic double hydroxide clay with a substantially intact layered structure, the inter-lamellar anions consisting substantially of the anions of the reactant alcohol.
