Abstract

900,433. Label-dispensers. MINNESOTA MINING: & MANUFACTURING CO. July 20. 1960 [Sept. 25, 1959], No. 25252/60. Class 94(1). [Also in Group IX] A label dispenser of the kind which removes labels from a carrier web, includes a take-up roll for the waste web, the roll being in two detachable parts to facilitate removal of the coiled web. The web bearing the labels passes from a roll 13 over a plate 20 and heater 24 to the stripping edge 22 and from there to the take-up roll 23. The roll comprises a hub 32 and flange 33 fixed on spindle 35, and a removable flange 37 having a pin 40 engageable with one of a series of recesses 34 in the hub. In another form, Figs. 8, 9 (not shown), the the pin engages a single flat on the hub. The roll 23 may be rotated through gearing by a hand lever, Fig. 7 (not shown), or may be driven by a motor 53 through gearing 51, 36. A rheostat may enable motor speed to be varied as the roll increases in diameter. The take-up roll is carried on arms 42 mounted on a cover 46 pivoted at 47 for ready access. A presser plate 25 with a spring 27 bears on the labels above the plate 20. The plate 25 may have an attached magnet in lieu of the spring.
