Abstract

909,722. Washing air. ALUMINIUM-INDUSTRIE-A.G. Feb. 11, 1960 [Feb. 27, 1959], No. 4875/60. Class 55 (2). Apparatus for purifying the air escaping from a building comprises at least one shaft 1 which is built into the roof of the building and the lower part of which forms a spray chamber in which are nozzles 9 spraying liquid upwardly towards a filter chamber consisting of filter elements 12, 13, 14, 15 and 16, air inlets 6 and an extractor fan 19 in a round chimney 4, the height of the filter chamber being from 0.4 to 1.5 times, preferably 0.45 to 0.9 times, the height of the spray chamber, and the maximum cross-sectional area of the shaft being from 5 to 25 times, preferably 10 to 17 times, as great as the crosssectional area of the chimney. Preferably the total cross-sectional area of the inlets 6 is from <SP>1</SP>/ 5 th to <SP>4</SP>/ 5 ths of the maximum cross-sectional area of the shaft. Spraying liquid is collected in the base 11 of the shaft and sprays 17 may be provided between the filter elements as shown. The filter elements may be a frame over which polyvinyl chloride fabric is stretched.
