Abstract

Structural foams are produced by mixing a resole with an acid curing catalyst in the presence of an organic polyisocyanate and water. Reaction mixture ingredients specified and utilized in the examples are a resole prepared from formalin and phenol: acid curing catalysts hydrochloric acid and phosphoric acid: and organic polyisocyanates 2,4- and 2,6-tolylene diisocyanates and mixtures thereof. Optional additives are triethylene diamine, ethyl cellulose and polyoxyalkylene derivatives, e.g. a polyoxyalkylene derivative of sorbitol mono-laurate, as surface-active agents.ALSO:Structural foams are produced by mixing a resole with an acid curing catalyst in the presence of an organic polyisocyanate and water.
