906,791. Stapling devices. GORKIN, N. S., STREKOPITOR, A. A., and GARIN, N. D. Oct. 1, 1959, No. 33282/59. Class 89 (3). [Also in Group VI] A hand-operated stapling device comprises a body 1 having a hook 2 which carries a die 3 having recesses 4 for bending staples, a clamping head 14 containing a staple magazine 15, a staple driver 11 operated by a handle 9 for driving staples from the magazine and through material placed between the clamping head and the die, and a two-pronged fork 19 fixed to the clamping- head for preventing tissue slipping from between the clamping-head and the die. The clamping- head is carried by a member 5 which is adjustably slidable in the body by a nut 8. A handle 6 is fixed to the clamping member 5, the operating handle 9 being pivoted on the member and having a portion 13 which engages a rod 12 which is slidable in the clamping member and carries the staple driver 11. The staple driver has teeth which correspond to staple-receiving slots A in the magazine. The operating handle carries a lever 20, 21 which in one position abuts a projection on the fixed handle to lock the operating handle in inoperative position and which in another position frees the operating handle for operation of the device. When the handles are squeezed together against a spring 10, the staple driver is projected so that staples are ejected simultaneously from the magazine, pierce the tissue and are bent against the die recesses. The magazine slots and the die recesses are arranged in staggered formation in two rows.
