Abstract
904,900. Liquid fuel burners. STARHILL COMBUSTIONS Ltd. Sept. 12, 1958 [June 13, 1957], No. 18729/57. Class 75 (1). Liquid fuel is atomized by mixing it with air or steam in a compressor and passing the mixture through at least two circular jet orifices 18, 20 separated by an expansion chamber 19, the diameter of each orifice being less than 0.016 inch. The second jet orifice 20 discharges into a second expansion chamber 21 which leads to a flame tube 15 having an air inlet 25 which may be varied in size by a sleeve (not shown). The mixture is injected through a jet 27 into a first chamber 17. In a modified construction the mixture is injected along the longitudinal axis of the burner instead of at right-angles thereto and one jet orifice is formed by an aperture in a baffle traversing a chamber. Each jet may comprise more than one orifice, for instance three orifices forming an equilateral triangle. The orifices in adjacent jets are preferably arranged out of alignment.
