Abstract

892,295. Openers; forming fibre webs. T.M.M. (RESEARCH) Ltd. July 27, 1960 [July 29, 1959] No. 26075/59. Class 120(1) Fibres are opened as for cotton blow-room processes or for non-woven fabrics and are formed into webs by the action of a rotary heater that disintegrates fibre groups and generates an airstream to deliver fibres to a foraminated conveyer, the heater creating pressure on one side of the conveyer and suction on the other. In one form of apparatus, a heater 10 with a spiked, bladed or sawtoothed periphery disintegrates a fringe of fibres fed by a roller 14 and feed plate 15 and causes the fibres to be carried in an airstream A directed through a perforated conveyer 19 on which the fibres are deposited. Control over the airstream is afforded by a shutter 121 and its direction is in part determined by a baffle 16. If desired, a rotary stripping brush, roller, fan or the like 24 may be mounted adjustably in operating relationship to the heater 10. A modified arrangement has the web of fibres deposited on a perforated drum provided with an internal baffle to direct the airstream through it.
