In a semi-mounted hay-making machine of the ground-driven rakewheel type, part 5 of the frame carrying the rake-wheels is detachably connected at various positions to the remainder 4. As shown in Fig. 2, the frame 1 is U-shaped in plan and has two rearwardly-extending limbs 2, 3 to which a part 5 carrying rakewheels 8 is detachably secured. The limb 2 is longer and carries two rakewheels 8 and a swivel ground-wheel 32. The limb 3 normally carries no wheels so that when the frame part 5 is attached to it, the device operates as a swath-turner, the part 5 carrying a swivel-wheel 33 at its rear end. The frame-part 4 is attached to tractor hitch-links by a structure 46 which comprises a turntable 49 carrying, downwardly, a cross-shaft 55 with crank-arms 56 and crankpins 57 for the lower hitch-links and, upwardly, a horizontal pivot 63 to which is attached a pillar 62 connected to the top link ; the pillar can pivot to allow the wheel 33 to remain on uneven ground. The turntable is rotatable about a vertical axis to angle the rake-wheels to the line of draught, and, in a modification, Fig. 18 (not shown), the rotation is effected by rackwork on the turntable which is formed as a winch so that a cable, wound round it and attached to the swivel-wheels, simultaneously adjusts the swivel-axes. The swivel-wheels are spring-loaded and the rakewheels are suspended by cranks which are also spring-loaded by tension or torsion springs. In a further modification, Fig. 19 (not shown), the frame can be angled relatively to the tractor draught-links by a hydraulic ram connected between the cross-shaft 55 and the frame-part 4. In Fig. 24 the frame 1 is rigidly mounted on the cross-shaft 55 which is mounted on a triangulated bracket 150 carried by tractor draughtlinks 132, 136, the top link being connected by a bell-crank 161 and cable 165 to the crank arms 16 carrying the rake-wheels, so that raising the hitch-links lifts the rake-wheels. In Fig. 29 each rake-wheel 8 is carried by a stub axle 118 integral with a sleeve 177 on the frame-beam 1, the sleeve and beam having lugs 181, 180 with an adjusting-screw 182 to determine the inclination of the rake-wheel plane to the vertical. The rake-wheels may be replaced by wheels having weeding or scarifying tines.
