Abstract
A siloxane copolymer, for use as a dielectric fluid (see Group XXXVI), consists essentially of units of the formulae R3SiO 1/2 , R12SiO and 3,3,3-trifluoropropyl methyl siloxane units, in which R and R1 are the same or different and are each an aliphatic hydrocarbon radical of 1 to 6 C atoms or a phenyl radical, there being at least 5 mol. per cent of the fluorine-containing siloxane units. The copolymer may be made by copolymerizing R3SiO(R12SiO)xSiR3, where x is 0 or an integer, trifluoropropylmethylcyclotrisiloxane and (R12SiO)y, where y is an integer of 3 to 8 inclusive, in the presence of an alkaline catalyst, e.g. an alkali metal salt of a silanol, NaOH or KOH as described in Example 1, or in the presence of perfluoroalkane sulphonic acids, as described in Specification 899,657.
