Abstract
The invention comprises water-insoluble dyes of formula <FORM:0899316/IV (c)/1> where R is H or Me and when R is Me X is H and Ar a naphthenic nucleus with an OH group in the a -position and when R is H, X is -N(Et)2 and Ar a naphthenic nucleus with an OH group in the b -position; Ar optinally containing an alkyl group of 1-4 carbon atoms. The dyes are made by conventional methods of diazotisation and coupling. Preferably the lower alkyl group is p to the OH group. The dyes colour hydrocarbon and halogenated hydrocarbon polymers. Examples are provided of the preparation of the dyes which are red or reddish brown. Specification 895,439 is referred to.
