Abstract

899,001. Guide rolls for felts and wires of paper-making machines &c. HINDLE, SON & CO. Ltd. Nov. 24, 1958 [Jan. 21, 1958], No. 1965/58. Class 96. A guide roll 23 for correcting wander of a felt 40 or a wire-cloth of a paper - making machine has one end of its shaft 22 pivotally mounted, and the other end suspended from a pivot 25 so that it can swing to the right or left, as illustrated, under resilient return action due to springs 50, 51, about a mean position which is adjustable by a hand wheel 42 and a screwed rod 41 passing through a swivel-nut 43. The swinging movement is effected to a predetermined extent, by air pressure which forces a piston 29<SP>1</SP> to either end of a cylinder 29, the supply of compressed air from a pipe 34 and its release to the atmosphere being governed by a valve-bobbin 33 which is linked to a feeler 38 contacting, under spring action 39, the edge of the felt 40 &c. The mechanical and pneumatic action may be substituted by photoelectric and solenoid action, in which case chattering of the switches may be avoided by including an electronic delay of half a second in the circuit.
