898,827. Typewriter etc.; feeding webs. GRAPHIC TECHNOLOGY Ltd. May 27, 1960 [May 30, 1959], No. 18486/59. Classes 100(1) and 100(4) A tractor pin feed unit for feeding webs in typewriters or like machines comprises an endless chain of similar links 13 made of thin wire bent to a generally W shape to form side arms 14 and a transverse portion 16, bent to define an open-mouthed slot 18. Feed pins 19 have flanges 20 defining a groove 21 which is sprung in to engage the closed end 17 of the groove 18. Mounting plates 26 for the unit are adjustably fixed along a rod 10 and are held in position thereon by a coil spring 35. Turning a knob 39 releases the grip of the spring 35 and allows the unit to be adjusted for a different width paper web. A finger plate 46 for holding the paper webs in engagement with the pins is pivotally mounted on a pin 49 passing through lugs 43, 44 of the mounting plate 26. A spring 51 holds a bracket 47 in contact with a flange 52 of the lug 44 and thus correctly spaced from the chain. Depression of the plate 46 against the spring 51 disengages the bracket 47 from the flange 52 and allows the plate to be swung to an inoperative position. The driving sprocket for the chain is provided with arcuate shaped teeth to assist stripping the paper webs off the pins.
