In bending strip hardened by cold-rolling or heat treatment, the strip is weakened by local heat-treatment at the areas a to be bent after cooling. The strip may be fed past gas or induction &c. heaters on one or both sides of the strip to weaken the fold areas. Electric resistance heaters employing silica bars may be used.
