Abstract

897,785. Heating systems and space heating radiators for buildings. GRILLET, L. July 29, 1960 [July 29, 1959], No. 26051/59. Class 64(2) A space heating system in which a pulsating circulation of liquid is provided, comprises a closed circulation path including in series a sealed heater tank 1 having an outlet path 3 extending through a non-return valve 4 and series connected radiators (not shown) to a second tank 7. An inlet path 8 extends from the second tank 7 to the heating tank 1 and includes a non-return valve 9. When the vapour pressure in the heating tank 1 reaches a sufficient value, liquid is forced to flow from this tank through the radiators to the second tank 7. Thus the liquid in the second tank rises causing the float 10 to rise and to open a switch 11, which is in series with the heating element 2. The tank 1 then cools and vapour condenses causing a partial vacuum. This vacuum draws the liquid from the tank 7 through the pipe 8 to the heater tank 1. When the float in the second tank falls to a certain level it causes the switch to close again, and thus energizes the element 2. The second tank 7 is fitted with a bellows 12 which expands as the tank fills and collapses as the tank empties. The heater is also controlled by a thermostat responsive to the temperature of the liquid and another thermostat responsive to room temperature may be connected in series with the heater element. The radiators and pipes may be made of aluminium alloys or plastics materials.
